What is Auto Attendant?

Auto-Attendant, also called an automated attendant, is a term commonly used in telephony to describe a voice menu system that transfers calls to an extension without going through a telephone operator or receptionist. The auto-attendant is also sometimes referred to as a digital receptionist. Having an auto-attendant in a phone system is very useful and cost-effective for most businesses. It replaces/helps the human operator by automating and simplifying all incoming call routing.

Dial-By-Name Directory
A dial-by-name directory is usually available to help callers find the person they’re looking for. This feature lists users by name, allowing the caller to press a key to automatically ring the extension of the desired user once his/her extension. If a user is not available, the auto-attendant directs the caller to the associated voicemail.

Customize Company Needs
You can create custom greetings and route incoming calls based on your specific business hours or certain dates. Pre-set answering rules that exist during holiday hours, and then revert back to regular hours when the holiday is over. You can also set advanced rules that provide special handling for calls with specific caller ID information, such as certain customers, suppliers, or investors.

Language or Location Needs
If you have incoming calls that need be directed to different locations, or callers that speak different languages, you can accommodate this as well. You can set up your system so that incoming callers can select different buttons to be routed to different offices, or to hear their options in different languages.
