Ooma Business Review Summary

Since 2004, Ooma has worked hard to transform the landscape of phone service into something much better. Their goal was to redesign traditional phone systems with the help of VoIP. Over time they've made business VoIP phone service more flexible, with more features at lower prices.

So how does Ooma stack up against the other VoIP service providers? Well, according to PCmag.com, Ooma has been the number 1 Business Choice form VoIP systems for the last 5 years in a row! That's pretty impressive. And for small businesses, Ooma is a great solution.

Ooma is different than typical VoIP service for one big reason. Rather than paying a monthly service fee, you just pay for the Ooma Telo device, then pay only applicable government taxes and fees.

The Telo also provides some advanced features, and additional services that make your traditional phone act more like a smartphone.

Bottom Line:

Ooma is a good business phone service for small companies (less than 20 employees).

Overall Review

Ooma Office is designed to fit the needs of businesses that have anywhere from 2 to 200 employees. This is possible because they don't require contracts and allow businesses to add as many additional lines as needed at no extra cost. The ability to scale up or scale down your business as needed is one of our favorite features within Ooma. Once you sign up, the monthly cost will never increase.

Through their mobile app, you can control your system from anywhere. You can manage phone calls, check voice mail, send faxes, and update features from any mobile device with the app. Their web admin is also simple to use. From here you can update call routing preferences, assign specific conference line numbers, or alter your company contacts.

We'd also like to highlight the ability their phones have to plug-and-play. Simple take one of their IP phones out of the box and plug it in to the Ooma adapter and your internet connection. Once everything is connected, you can begin making calls, start setting up your unique preferences, get to know their features, and design your system the way you want it to look.

Small & Medium Business Review

The ability to work on the go is one of the most important features for modern small businesses. With the help of the Ooma mobile app, you can use your smartphone as your business phone. All calls can be routed to any number you choose, and your outgoing caller ID can appear as if it's coming from a work phone.

Depending on the size of your business and layout of your office, you may need to have phones spread throughout. Ooma Linx is a feature within Ooma Office that allows these phones to connect wirelessly anywhere within the office. This should cut down on added equipment and make your office communications more efficient and seamless.

As your business grows, it's important to have a phone system that can keep up. Ooma provides IP phones that can plug in and be used immediately with your existing system. Add as many lines as you need to keep up with growth. Use the web admin tool to update your preferences as needed, including designing the dialogue of your virtual receptionist.

Hosted PBX Review

Ooma Office is an award-winning cloud hosted PBX voice service that has generated a lot of buzz in the small business category. For 5 years in a row they've outranked 200+ competitors in PC Mag's reader awards for best VoIP (hosted PBX) service for business.

Ooma's system offers very useful virtual PBX features like Virtual Receptionist, Extension Dialing, Call Transfer, Extension-to-Extension calling, and tons more, that you manage via the Web Admin Portal.

Ooma works with all analog phones and a growing number of select IP phones from Yealink and Cisco. Getting set up with Ooma is extremely easy. They've created a simple do-it-yourself process that's basically plug-and-play. The process differs slightly for analog phones versus IP phones, but both are straight forward.

While Ooma Office isn't the best hosted PBX solution for Enterprise sized organizations, it's a great solution for small businesses (2 - 20 users). The pricing is competitive, there are no long-term contracts, and you get over 35 features.

Ooma Business Reliability (9.2 / 10)

Unlike most VoIP phone providers, Ooma, doesn't list anything on their site about geo redundant centers or fail-safes for their system. Because of this, we're not sure about their protocol for routing calls during power outages or other possible problems. What we do know is how their adapter works. It contains a USB port to provide future expansion opportunities, plus a DECT radio that works with up to 4 Linx remote phone jacks. To ensure clear and reliable calls, each adapter also comes equipped with a built-in 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

Ooma does have information listed about their internet security features for your home phone service. One of these is threat security which locks sites and email links that are searching for your personal information, or possibly contain spyware or malware. If you want to block or allow specific websites, they do provide domain blacklisting and whitelisting.

They also provide real time threat updates that occur thousands of times each day to keep your information protected. If you want to filter search engine results, their safe search feature ensures that all explicit or inappropriate images always get blocked. This could be especially helpful if you have young children at home. Lastly, they do provide general content filling, allowing you to block access to all websites that are using up to 93 content category filters.

Ooma Business Value (9.1 / 10)

Is Ooma Business a good value?

Most small business customers want a phone system that's easy to use, has a set of desired features, and doesn't cost too much. In our opinion, Ooma does a good at providing just this. Their One office account costs $19.95 a month and includes a phone number, virtual fax, and conference line. Other features are also available and won't cost you extra.

No contracts are ever required with Ooma, and you can add or take away lines anytime you want. The monthly price of $19.95 per line never goes up no matter how many new lines you add. This simplicity is one of the things we like the best about Ooma small business phone service.

If you need service and equipment, you might want to consider purchasing Ooma Office. This package includes one base, one station and two links for $199.99. Having a one time expense that provides you with all the equipment necessary to set up your communications system seems like a great deal from our end, and very valuable for a new business.

Ooma Business Customer Support (9.0 / 10)

Ooma's customer support services come in a variety of ways. For business services, they provide Ooma Office support. This includes links to help with account settings, feature administrations, and a good variety of video tutorials. These are designed to help you get set up, manage employees, and troubleshoot when necessary.

We love the fact that they provide a forum where you can interact with other Ooma customers. Some may have experienced the same problems or issues you have, and are able to provide you with simple solutions. This type of customer support encourages a sense of community that we don't see very often.

If you still can't find what you're looking for, they have a live chat window you can use any time to speak with a live representative. Click on "contact us" and you'll see a list of phone numbers and emails you can use to contact customer support personnel. These numbers appear to work weekdays and weekend, but only during regular business hours. Based on these different options, we think Ooma provides adequate and varied customer support for their clients.
