Phone.com Review Summary

Phone.com provides VoIP phone service for residential and small business customers. Their phone plans come equipped with over 40 different features that could be useful for your home or business. One of these features is a conference bridge, which allows up to 500 participants to be on a single call.

We also really like their automated messaging system you can use to set up a meeting, send a quick note, or sing ‘Happy Birthday’ with a personalized audio message to another phone. From a small business perspective, we find this feature incredibly fun and useful. Personal or business faxes can be sent and received directly from your Phone.com account.

If you prefer to communicate by chatting or texting, this is also available through Phone.com. Group chats over SMS can be initiated using their mobile app, and text messages can be sent to your Phone.com number and displayed in your account inbox. Any forwarded messages will appear on your cell phone like any regular SMS.

Overall Review

When considering switching from a traditional phone system to a VoIP phone system, there are many factors to think about. One of these is whether or not the new system will require you to purchase new equipment. If you choose to sign up with Phone.com, any traditional phone will work, so there's no need to buy a new phone. Their analog phone adapter with work with any traditional analog telephone.

If desired, you can purchase any of Phone.com's ring-ready IP phones. These can be purchased directly from Phone.com and come pre-configured so they are ready to work the moment they’re plugged into your network. If you are looking to upgrade your system with new technology, this could be a simple way to do so.

Many workers rely on mobile phones for business transactions, which is why the ability to work with mobile phones is a highly valuable feature of Phone.com. You can use their phone plans with any smartphone or mobile phone with their help of their mobile app. Their system also works with Softphones if that's something useful for your business.

Small & Medium Business rating

Small & Medium Business Review

As a VoIP phone provider for small and medium sized businesses, Phone.com does well at providing impressive features. One we find highly valuable is their ability to set up menus. When someone calls your business, what you designate within a menu is what they will hear. Menus let you send callers to extensions, voicemail, queues and recordings, all by pressing a button. You can also include a customized recording giving important information such as business hours, or a company directory.

We like the set up of their web interface, finding it easy to navigate and highly intuitive. Their user-friendly design lets you configure and manage all of Phone.com's features by simply clicking your mouse. Any system that provides easy to use products is one that will help employees be more productive and improve the overall efficiency of the business.

One last feature we'd like to mention is their call routing capabilities. You can design this to meet the specific needs of your company by scheduling incoming calls to get routed to the proper extensions, greetings, or menus based on when the call is received. You can also use Find-Me Follow-Me to direct calls to one or multiple phone numbers, selecting whether you want to have them ring all at once or sequentially.

Hosted PBX Review

Phone.com offers a feature packed virtual hosted PBX system with plans starting at less than $10 per month (paid annually). This lower pricing plan is for 300 monthly minutes. Unlimited plans are more, starting as low as $19.99/mo per line. Note that the pricing is dependent on the number lines you order.

With Phone.com hosted PBX you get HD quality voice, conferencing, text messaging, virtual fax, call recording, and many more features.

You can use traditional analog phones (adaptor required), IP phones, softphones, and mobile phones. Phone.com's virtual PBX solution basically connects all of your devices together through their easy-to-use online management system.

Getting started is simple. Basically you sign up, choose a number (or transfer your existing one), and then configure the service. Phone.com's cloud PBX system is a great solution for small-to-medium sized businesses.

Phone.com Reliability (9.0 / 10)

We struggled to find any information regarding redundancies or backups within Phone.com that could give us some indication as to their reliability as a company. The only thing we found had to do with logging calls and HIPAA compliance. According to their site, they log every call in the background so that information can be accessed later if needed.

They’ve also partnered with the Compliancy Group, which specializes in HIPAA compliance within your cloud phone system. Many companies deal with very private information that's HIPAA protected. We can see how this type of security and assurance could be highly desired.

We did some additional research to find out what other people were saying about Phone.com. They've been in business for 11 years, indicating a certain level of reliability and trust. The better business bureau has awarded them an A+ rating, which tells us that they must be doing many things right for their customers. However, because this information was difficult to compile, we have given them a 6.5/10 for reliability.

Phone.com Features (9.0 / 10)

A Summary of Phone.com Features

When it comes to available features within a VoIP phone system, Phone.com is our favorite. Many sites we've reviewed either don't provide good features or make it difficult to find which features they do have. Not only does Phone.com have a huge number of features, they also show you how to use them.

When you hover over any feature listed on their features page, you'll see a brief description of what it does. If you click on "Learn More" you are sent to a new page that gives detailed instructions on what the feature does, and how you can best use it. We think this is extremely useful because often times you don't use a feature simply because you don't know how it works.

To make things even more useful, there are additional broad category links that help customers know how to select phone numbers, set up and use different extensions, and utilize private voice mail. There are also examples and instructions on how to set up different types of call routing, and how to manage the admin web portal. If we were looking for a new small business phone system based on features alone, Phone.com would be at the top of our list.

Phone.com Value (9.0 / 10)

Is Phone.com a good value?

We think Phone.com provides a better than average overall value for VoIP phone service, and here's why. Regardless of which phone plan you choose, you can have unlimited users. If you need to add more, simply add more. If you need less, take some away. Phone.com does not require any contracts, allowing you the flexibility of using their service for however long or short period of time as you'd like.

If you need to add more phones, you can do add them at any time to any plan. Just order more phones and add them to your desired plan. Many of their included and additional features are fully customizable. You can select hold music, call routing options, recorded messages, and much more.

We took a closer look at the three main phone plans and feel they provide good value for their relative cost. For $12.99/ month you get 300 minutes with unlimited users and 5,000 SMS messages. For $19.99/ month you get 500 minutes with unlimited users and 10,000 SMS messages. At the top you'll pay $39.99/ month and 1,000 minutes with unlimited users and 20,000 SMS messages.

Phone.com Customer Support (9.0 / 10)

The layout of their customer support page is simple and easy to navigate. Along the top they have various means of communicating with customer support. This includes via phone, email, or live chat. They also have two separate links you can use to check your system status or carrier status.

Below this you'll find three main categories that new and existing customers could use to set up service or help with issues. The first link takes you to getting started guides, which provide you with detailed information on how to set up your business for 1-2, 3-10, or 10+ employees. The second link helps you set up your individual account, including personalized features like voicemail, contacts and menus.

The last link has information on troubleshooting problems that may arise during your set up procedure. At the bottom of the page you'll find around a dozen frequently asked questions that may also provide answers to your questions. Between the guides, links, and various means of contacting live customer support, we feel Phone.com has earned a 7.5/10 for customer support.
